Celebrating 30 years of Hockey in the Vail Valley
The Vail Breakaways have quite a history in the Vail valley and throughout Colorado. The team has been in existence for 30 years and has won the Colorado State Title eight times in the last sixteen years. The Vail women's ice hockey team began in 1977 with a group of women who had never played hockey before. As the league has grown throughout the years, so has the caliber of play. Several teams throughout the state have elite college players and professionals from central Europe competing. The Breakaways made the history books in 1996 as the first women's ice hockey team from North America to compete in China. The Breakaways lost to the Denver Bandits in the final game of the 2001-2002 season and finished second in state. They came back in 2002-2003 and and re-claimed the Stella Cup with their victory over the Aspen Mother Puckers and were Stella Cup Runners-up in 2003-2004.
The Vail Breakaways would like to thank the following sponsors for their contributions to the Tournament April 2-4, 2004 at Dobson Arena. |
